Points of Pride

  • Competing against Monroe, Piedmont, and Porter Ridge during the October 2009 Union County AFJROTC Championship Games, Parkwood's AFJROTC brought home many awards. They received 1st place in Overall, Basic Unarmed Flight drill event, Basic Unarmed Element drill event, Basic Armed Element drill event, Individual Regulation Unarmed drill event, Volleyball, and Tug of War and 2nd place in Color Guard drill event and Team Mile Relay.

  • Congratulations to Sophomore Rebecca Mulligan (Clarinet) for making the South Central District Bandmasters Association All-District Honors Band and for qualifying to audition for the All-State Honors Band!

  • On April 24, 2010, Taliqua Medley set the Parkwood record in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.64 seconds at the Union County Track and Field Championship held at Porter Ridge High.

Busy First Semester for Parkwood's AFJROTC

Parkwood High School's AFJROTC took on several projects this semester. From teaching about and celebrating Veterans Day to completing 10 community service projects and participating in the Waxhaw Christmas Parade, the cadets and their leaders, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Eric Kelly and SMSgt. (Ret.) William Reid, have shown dedication to Parkwood and its community.

Spanish Students Increase Bilingualism At Local Preschool

Jennifer Edenfield’s Spanish II classes recently completed a project that reached out to help a local preschool, Emmanuel Childcare Center, in Monroe.  This facility is currently working on getting state certified “stars,” which requires accommodations for Spanish-speaking children attending the preschool.
